Tips Tools & Resources for Local Business Owners
Volume II Issue X

Finally... a resource just for small local businesses who want to use the Internet to grow their business!

For all we hear about the global reach of the Internet, the fact remains that most people’s lives – both business and personal – are local. We live in cities or towns planted firmly on planet Earth.

While worldwide information is great, people need to know what’s happening where they live. Life is local. If the Internet is to be useful for everybody, it must be too.

Thankfully the local online market has finally started to take off. As more local information becomes available online, people are starting to look at the Internet as something useful instead of a passing fad.

And where people go, advertisers are sure to follow. The amount of money spent on local online advertising has steadily increased in the last few years. According to The Kelsey Group (http://kelseygroup.com), geocommerce, or local advertising revenues, are expected to reach about $50 billion by 2006.

Local Business Today (LBT) is for the astute marketer who realizes that the future of the Internet is local. You'll find articles and case studies from the LBT Local Success Series. For more Small Local Business resources, visit www.GeoLocal.com.

P.S. "Congratulations on selling house and upcoming move. I hope it works out wonderfully for you and the family -- you DON'T really do all this, with triplets, right? Tell me that can't be so. ;-)"

"Hi Sharon,

Great Stuff!! Just read your last issue and loved the Gage Menswear success story. Perfect example of using online marketing to build relationships rather than "just advertise". I'm hooked....can't wait for the next issue!

God Bless,

Hi Sharon,

Your ezine is pleasantly different from most ezines, you are striving to present us new information and interviews, we would not have access to.

To hear about someone's success that has been able to rise out of the mire of mediocre life, does inspire us all.

Other ezines give four paragraphs about how I subscribed, and they are not spamming me.

Then a small blurb. Then top position ad. Then a blurb and second ad. This keeps going until you get to the feature article, only to find out you have read it in another ezine last week.

I know they are out to make money, and I will also be doing it to make money, but will be following a course something like yours, reaching out to people, well I will shut up and let you get back to work.

"Sharon,

Another great newsletter! I particularly enjoyed the local success series on "California Tortilla." It is nice to read how businesses are using the Internet to promote their brick and mortar store. The article got me thinking on ideas of how we can help our local clients in their off/online promotions. Definitely looking forward to future newsletters and more success stories!

Keep up the good work and look forward to your next newsletter!"

Hi Sharon,

After reading "How To Promote Your Local Business On The Internet," I understand why Ken Evoy recommended it so strongly. Not only is the content great, but the formatting is attractive and easy on the eyes. Thanks for helping me develop a better understanding of one of my target markets!

Hi Sharon,

Just a quick note to congratulate you on your wonderful book and tell you how I plan to use it. I live in New Zealand and when purchasing your book I realized many references would not be applicable to me but knew I would also gain plenty of benefit - which I have.

I used to successfully market a health product that's manufactured in the USA and imported into NZ. I now have an Importers Licence to bring it in and market it totally via a website for New Zealanders. So, your book will help me take the plunge!

I just felt so good about your product and service hence the comments! There are but a handful of contacts I have who put so much of themselves into their products and communications. It never ceases to amaze me how you people can continually project such a happy and bright personality even when you must be experiencing real bad days! Well done!

Kind regards,
Rosemary

Sharon,

I thought the book was more than good. I appreciated the specificity -- suggestions I can immediately use....and I always note and appreciate your prompt response. As a former VP of Customer Service and Marketing for a national firm, I never miss it when I get good service -- it's part of the reason I bought your book. Another reason I bought your book was the quality and usefulness of your newsletters!

And thank you once more for your thoughtfulness. I will look forward to your next newsletter.

Thanks again,

Sharon,

I love getting your newsletters! Your sense of humor and insight to the problems to local businesses are right on. I have had a portal of sorts for two years and just now it is getting enough hits to warrant a more commercial venture. Your suggestions are great and I am passing them on - of course, with credit. Thank you.

Hi Sharon,

My name is Steve Nash and I'm a recent subscriber to your newsletter. I just wanted to say "thanks" - it was a good read, and your newsletter has already been mentally added to my list of 'must-read ezines.' :-)

Re. the comments of the South African subscriber, moaning about US-centric local business newsletter-content. Yes, he does have a point, but I don't think it's the hardest stretch of the imagination to transfer US examples to our own locality - so I don't think it's that important. (Maybe this guy should start his own South Africa -focussed local- biz newsletter!)

Thanks again - I look forward to learning more about the local Internet.

Best wishes,

Steve Nash

Hi Sharon!

Hope your weekend is great! I had a thought about using the fre^e word without being deleted by sp*am stuff. How about "no$"? Would that work better than fre^e? I love your newsletter, comments, and forums!

Again, we thank you for noticing us and including our story in your ezine. I will talk with you again. Have a nice day.

"Hi Sharon,

I've been a subscriber since about August or September. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading each issue.

The interviews are what keep me reading. I'm always looking for tidbits of info to help me continue to grow my own small business. My website -- http://www.k6artlessonplans.com -- is for parents and teachers who are looking for creative art lessons for their kids and students.

Your article in the Oct.24th issue: "Are Online Marketers Missing the Boat?" got me thinking -- why am I not using more offline promotions to grow my business and drive more traffic to my sites? Well -- the main answer is -- I don't know enough good techniques for doing that. So I'll be purchasing your book to find out.

And I'll continue to read each issue and soak up your bi- weekly info.

Thanks for sharing with us."

"Hello Sharon,

I enjoyed reading your ebook (How to promote your local business online). I've been looking at some local resources like you said and can't wait to really start using the internet to promote my business locally. I believe I will start a trend in my area.

I don't have a website for my offline business yet but going through the process right now. The name of my core business right now is called Shrub Surgeon. We specialize in pruning and removing shrub & hedges. I've been having a great response, but it's time to go to another level. That's why I'm so glad I found your information.

Thanks again for the great work you're doing. Please continue to feed me info that will assist me and others on how to promote our local business online."

Yours in success,

"Hi Sharon,

I've been away for a spell, and I'm sorry that I missed your site since early in October. I noticed that Ken Evoy has joined into your mindset. It just goes to show 'how great minds, think alike'.

Keep up this great work, and I'll make an effort to catch up."

"Hi Sharon - Just wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying Local Business Today! You are one of the few people out there helping local businesses with online marketing. This week's insight into your newsletter naming process got me thinking about some ways to improve my own business. I always appreciate a glimpse into other's strategies. Thanks for sharing it in your newsletter."

"Dear Sharon,

Congratulations on developing such wonderful materials and and an effective approach to this surprisingly over-looked but huge market, online promotion for local businesses. It's exactly the type of stuff we needed in order to learn how to more effectively market our restaurant and hotel business. There's an abundance of good literature/ courses on marketing for online internet businesses but your course fills the gap that's missing ... how to bring more live people from around your neighborhood through your front door."
